AFC Wimbledon will face Fulham for the first time in over 25 years in the Carabao Cup second round this Thursday. The League One side travel to Craven Cottage for a rare meeting with their Premier League opponents.

The last competitive fixture between the clubs was on April 28, 2001, in the old Division One. Fulham, already promoted and managed by Jean Tigana, drew 1-1 with Wimbledon at Craven Cottage.

Jason Euell put Wimbledon ahead from the penalty spot in the 74th minute. Luis Boa Morte equalised with another penalty later in the game to secure a point for the hosts.

That result took Fulham to 101 points for the season. Wimbledon missed out on the play-offs that year and the clubs have followed very different paths since.

The teams have met on just 11 occasions across all competitions. Fulham have won six of those matches, with Wimbledon victorious twice and three games ending in draws.

They have faced each other three times in the FA Cup, with Fulham progressing on each occasion. The most recent cup meeting was a 3-0 win for Fulham in 2000.

The upcoming tie offers AFC Wimbledon a significant cup test against top-flight opposition.

Manager Johnnie Jackson and his squad will be aiming to cause an upset and progress to the third round. The winner of Thursday's match will face West Ham United at the London Stadium in the next stage.
