Myles Hippolyte scored a first-half free-kick to fire AFC Wimbledon to a 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers on Saturday afternoon. The goal came just before the break after Alistair Smith was fouled on the edge of the box, setting up the chance for the number 21.

Hippolyte said: "I just tried to keep it simple and hit it as clean as I could." His strike marked his second goal in two games, having also found the net in the midweek win over Bromley.

AFC Wimbledon made three changes from the side that won at Bromley, with Freddie Simmonds making his debut as a deadline day loanee, replacing Dan Sweeney. Aron Sasu and Callum Maycock came in for James Tilley and Steven Sessegnon.

Joe Bursik was busy in goal, making several key saves including stops from Jack Senior and Isaac Hutchinson, and later denying a free-kick from Hutchinson from 25 yards out. Bursik, wearing number 39, also claimed an early effort from Alfie May on loan from Huddersfield Town.

Doncaster had a penalty appeal waved off for offside and saw a free-kick ruled out due to a foul on captain Ryan Johnson. After the break, the Dons pushed for a second goal, with Donnell McNeilly creating a chance for Steve Seddon, whose cross was not met cleanly.

Jayden Stockley headed wide from a Hippolyte cross late on and also failed to connect properly with a Seddon corner. Neill Byrne nearly scored an own goal on a volley, while Zack Nelson's breakaway effort was saved by Tommy Simkin after a McNeilly setup.

Three minutes of added time were played, but AFC Wimbledon held on to secure the win. The result moved them up to seventh in League One with 10 points from six games, continuing a recent run of three wins from five matches.

The last meeting between the sides also ended 1-0 to AFC Wimbledon on the same date last season. Now, the team turns its focus to the next fixture against Milton Keynes Dons at home on 17 September.

The EFL has confirmed the details of the midweek win at Bromley. Jayden Stockley opened the scoring in the eighth minute, heading home James Tilley's cross. Myles Hippolyte then added a second in the 67th minute, finishing after being played through by Stockley. The league body noted that the victory was AFC Wimbledon's first away win of the season. It lifts the Dons to 15th place, according to the EFL's standings. The team's recent form is now three wins from their last five matches.
