AFC Wimbledon have strengthened their squad with three loan signings on deadline day, bringing in goalkeeper Joe Bursik from Portsmouth, winger Dujuan Richards from Chelsea, and midfielder Freddie Simmonds from Brighton and Hove Albion. All three players have joined the League One side for the remainder of the season.

The Dons, currently 18th in League One with four points from four games, have conceded seven goals this season. They are six points behind leaders Huddersfield Town. Manager Johnnie Jackson has moved to bolster his options, particularly in goal and attack, ahead of a busy period.

Joe Bursik's arrival marks a return to his boyhood club. The 26-year-old goalkeeper joined AFC Wimbledon's academy as an eight-year-old before leaving for Stoke City at 16. He broke through at Stoke, keeping seven clean sheets in 16 Championship appearances during the 2020-21 season. Subsequent loan spells took him to clubs like Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United before he signed for Portsmouth in September 2025. He made 10 league appearances for Pompey and started in their 4-1 FA Cup defeat to Arsenal.

"It's great to be back," Bursik said. "It's a bit of a full circle moment. Good feeling, good memories." His experience is expected to provide immediate competition for the number one shirt as Wimbledon look to tighten a defence that has a minus-five goal difference.

Dujuan Richards arrives from Chelsea with international pedigree. The 20-year-old winger is a full Jamaica international, though he is yet to make a senior appearance for the Blues. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City, where he featured in four matches. His pace and direct running are seen as assets that can add a new dimension to Wimbledon's attacking play.

Freddie Simmonds is the youngest of the trio at 18 years old. The midfielder has been with Brighton since the age of six and has progressed through their academy, featuring for the Under-21s in competitions like the EFL Trophy. He has also represented England at Under-16, Under-17, and Under-18 levels, playing at both the European Under-17 Championship and the Under-17 World Cup. This loan move to Plough Lane represents his first taste of senior football and a significant step in his development.

These signings address specific needs within the squad. Bursik provides proven League One experience in goal. Richards offers an attacking threat from wide areas, while Simmonds adds youthful energy and technical quality to the midfield. The club's current form reads LWDL, and they will hope these additions help turn performances into points. Fans can track the team's progress in the standings.

The immediate focus shifts to the next fixture, an away trip to face 19th-placed Bromley on 7 September 2026. All three new signings will be eligible for selection as Wimbledon seek their second win of the campaign.
