AFC Wimbledon have completed three loan signings to bolster their squad for the League One campaign. The club announced deals for Chelsea forward Dujuan Richards, Portsmouth goalkeeper Joe Bursik and Brighton & Hove Albion defender Freddie Simmonds, all until the end of the season.

These arrivals come as Wimbledon look to improve on their current league position of 18th, having taken four points from their opening four matches. Their next challenge is an away trip to face Bromley on September 7th. The BBC reported the moves on April 12th, 2024.

Dujuan Richards is a 20-year-old forward who is already a full international for Jamaica. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City, making four appearances, but is yet to feature for Chelsea's senior side. His pace and international experience are seen as assets for the Dons' attack.

Joe Bursik's move represents a homecoming. The 26-year-old goalkeeper joined the AFC Wimbledon academy at the age of eight before departing for Stoke City at 16. He established himself in the Championship with Stoke, keeping seven clean sheets in 16 games during the 2020-21 season. After loan spells at clubs like Accrington Stanley and Doncaster Rovers, he signed for Portsmouth in September 2025, making ten league appearances and starting in an FA Cup defeat to Arsenal.

Freddie Simmonds is an 18-year-old defender who has been with Brighton since he was six. He has featured for their Under-21s in competitions like the EFL Trophy but is awaiting his first-team debut. Simmonds has represented England at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 levels, playing in both the European Under-17 Championship and the Under-17 World Cup.

For Bursik, the loan is a sentimental return to where his career began. "It's great to be back," Bursik said. "It's a bit of a full circle moment. Good feeling, good memories." His familiarity with the club provides immediate leadership for a defensive unit that has conceded seven goals in four league games this term. The trio addresses specific needs across the pitch. Richards adds a new option in the final third for a team that has scored just two League One goals so far. Bursik brings Championship experience and competition for the goalkeeping spot. Simmonds offers promising defensive depth and the potential for development. Manager Johnnie Jackson will hope these additions provide the quality needed to climb the standings, where Wimbledon currently sit six points behind leaders Huddersfield Town.

Integrating the new players quickly will be important ahead of a busy schedule. The club's upcoming fixtures include the trip to 19th-placed Bromley, a key early-season match. All three loanees are eligible to feature immediately and will be aiming to make their debuts in that contest as AFC Wimbledon seek their second win of the campaign.
