MK Dons head coach Paul Warne was left frustrated by two penalty decisions that went against his side in the goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon. The result at Plough Lane on Thursday left Wimbledon fifth in League One with 11 points from seven games.
Warne believed his side should have been awarded a spot-kick in each half. The first appeal came when defender Curtis Nelson fell and appeared to handle the ball while attempting to clear. The second, on the stroke of half-time, saw Dan Crowley go down under a challenge from a Wimbledon defender.
Warne's frustration
"I don’t see how he doesn’t think that’s a foul," Warne said of the incident involving Crowley. "I’m not bothered whether he thinks it’s a penalty or not, he just threw him on the floor."
He was equally perplexed by the handball claim. "And at the other end, it looked handball to me." The referee for the match was Richard Eley, who issued no red cards and awarded no penalties.
The match also saw a second-half flashpoint between Wimbledon striker Jayden Stockley and MK Dons' Alex Gilbey, but no further action was taken. The clean sheet was Wimbledon's third in their last five matches, a run of form that reads three wins, one draw and one loss. You can review the full standings to see how the table looks.
Johnnie Jackson's side now turn their attention to a trip to fourth-placed Cambridge United on Saturday. That match is a key part of the upcoming fixtures as Wimbledon look to maintain their position near the top of the division.
