AFC Wimbledon has identified a preferred investor in its long-standing attempt to raise new capital. The club says the move is a key step towards a more sustainable future.
AFC Wimbledon stated that a preferred investor "has emerged as the strongest fit and has 'a proposal that will allow for competitive capability, sustainable football investment, improved infrastructure and greater operator resilience'." The club spoke to more than 20 interested parties before settling on this group.
Member approval process underway
The proposal must now be approved by the Dons Trust, the supporter-owned body that holds a majority stake in the club. Members have been invited to a meeting on 21 October where details of the would-be investor will be shared and online voting will begin.
A second meeting is scheduled for 29 October, followed by an Extraordinary General Meeting on 10 November. The online ballot will close on 17 November, with the result announced the following day. This process follows a vote in April where Dons Trust members approved moving to a 50.01% majority ownership model, giving the board a mandate to seek investment.
The club admitted last year that its current ownership structure was not sustainable. This investment push comes as the first team prepares for its next League One fixture. The voting process concludes on 17 November.
