AFC Wimbledon Foundation has underlined its commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community by formally signing the Armed Forces Covenant. The Foundation marked the occasion with a special event at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Tuesday 16 June, bringing together veterans, serving personnel, reservists, cadet units, partners and staff. Taking place in the Stadium's Legends Lounge, the event provided an opportunity to recognise the contribution and sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces community while highlighting the support already being delivered locally. The Armed Forces Covenant represents a commitment to ensuring that those who currently serve, have served previously, and their families – including those who have been bereaved – are treated fairly and with respect within the communities, economy and society they have served. At the heart of the Covenant are two key principles. Those serving as Regular or Reserve personnel, veterans and their families should not experience disadvantage when accessing public or commercial services, while special consideration should be given where appropriate, particularly to those who have sacrificed the most, including injured personnel and bereaved families. AFC Wimbledon Foundation CEO Phil Hastings formally signed the Covenant alongside Brigadier Sam Cates, reinforcing the organisation's commitment to creating accessible opportunities and a supportive, welcoming environment for the Armed Forces community. Throughout the morning, representatives from across the local Armed Forces network shared their experiences and discussed the role community organisations can play in providing meaningful support. The Foundation also highlighted a number of its existing initiatives, including its Veterans' Breakfast Café and its work alongside local cadet units and service organisations, while exploring opportunities to develop its provision further. The occasion also recognised the support of Jack Parry from the Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Association for Greater London, whose guidance helped the Foundation complete the Covenant signing process. By becoming an Armed Forces Covenant signatory, AFC Wimbledon Foundation has strengthened its commitment to ensuring serving personnel, veterans and their families feel supported and included within the local community. As the new season gets underway, AFC Wimbledon currently sits 19th in League One, with 53 points from 46 games, and a recent form of 2W-0D-3L (LWWLL).
